In 2018, a handful of years before his death, soccer titan Pelé, born Edson Arantes do Nascimento, sold his Hamptons home of nearly 40 years for $2.85 million.
The three-time World Cup champion, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 82, purchased the East End waterfront ranch in 1979 for $156,000 — or $680,000 today.
Pelé used the 3,400-square-foot home as an annual summer retreat, as his two daughters reside in New York City.
But as his health declined in the last few years, he retired to his native Brazil full-time.
Before Pelé sold off his beloved Springs home, he briefly listed it for rent at $45,000 per month.
He expanded it into a two-story spread, which sits on roughly 1 landscaped acre by Clearwater Beach and its marina. The home comes with a pool, an outdoor shower and deeded access to the beach.
Made up of six bedrooms and seven baths, the home features a double-height living room, an open-plan dining area, and a recently renovated chef’s kitchen with windows and sliders opening to the deck, the previous listing said.
The lower level features a play area, an office and a media room. There is also a separate detached garage.
The primary suites on the first and second floors both have sliders leading out to the deck, which runs the full width of the house.
On Dec. 29, he lost his battle with cancer at Albert Einstein hospital in São Paulo — known as the best hospital in South America and one of the best in the world — after being in hospice for more than a month in what began as an unscheduled visit.
He had been undergoing treatment for metastatic cancer since 2021. Chemotherapy was also reportedly no longer working.
On Christmas Eve, Pele’s daughter, Kely Nascimento, posted a moving photo of her hugging her father in a hospital bed.
“We continue to be here, in fight and in faith. Another night together,” Nascimento wrote on Instagram, alongside a photo of her father being hugged in bed. Pelé’s granddaughter Sophia could also be seen in the photo.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Pelé remained out of the limelight. He spent his 80th birthday isolated at home — and also skipped an event unveiling a life-size statue of him at Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro that same year.
He spent most of his time at his mansion in the beachfront city of Guarujá, on the coast of the state of São Paulo. Pelé also had residences in Santos and in São Paulo.
Regarded as the one of the greatest players of all time, the Brazilian soccer star won his first World Cup at age 17.
His career ran from the 1950s to the 1970s, when he played for the New York Cosmos.
