It's easy to forget just how many famous faces have appeared in Black Mirror since it first burst onto the small screen back in 2011.

From Bryce Dallas Howard to Michaela Coel (who's actually in two episodes – 'Nosedive' and 'USS Callister'), the cast of Charlie Brooker's sci-fi anthology series is not only incredibly varied, it's huge, so much so that a few names have probably slipped your mind along the way – and we simply won't allow it.

1. Jodie Whittaker

The Entire History of You

Before Broadchurch and Doctor Who, there was Black Mirror. The 36-year-old plays Ffion, a woman whose husband, Liam (Toby Kebbell), suspects she is having an affair.

In order to find out the truth, Liam uses a piece of equipment called a grain, which is implanted in your skull and records everything that you see, to figure out what's going on. And true to form, the consequences are devastating.

2. Daniel Kaluuya

Fifteen Million Merits

Before he became a household name starring in Jordan Peele's American horror Get Out and Black Panther, the London-born actor had been gradually racking up the roles, from Posh Kenneth in Skins to Black Death in Kick-Ass 2.

In the middle of all that, the 29-year-old appeared in the anthology series as Bing, a man trapped in a world where people are forced to cycle on exercise bikes to power their surroundings, and earn a currency called Merits.

There is also the chance of escaping the world in which everyone is essentially a slave by competing in a talent show. (SATIRE.)

3. Jessica Brown Findlay

Fifteen Million Merits

Kaluuya appears in the episode alongside Jessica Brown Findlay, who the majority of people will recognise from her role as Lady Sybil Crawley in Downton Abbey. She plays Abi, who is convinced by Bing to take part in the talent show.

4. Rupert Everett

Fifteen Million Merits

Another familiar face popping up in Fifteen Million Merits is St Trinian's actor Rupert Everett, who plays the Simon Cowell-esque Judge Hope. (SATIRE AGAIN.)

The fate of the contestants lies in the hands of Hope, along with two other judges.

5. Julia Davis

Fifteen Million Merits

Yep, five in and we've not got past episode two. 52-year-old Davis makes up a third of the talent-show panel in Fifteen Million Merits as Judge Charity. (COULD THIS GET ANY MORE SATIRICAL?)

Davis is one of the country's finest comedy actors and writers, appearing in Gavin and Stacey, Camping and her latest project, Sally4Ever.

6. Hannah John-Kamen

Fifteen Million Merits and Playtest

We last saw Hannah John-Kamen in Ant Man and the Wasp as Ava Starr, a young girl who is blasted with Quantum Energy in a laboratory accident and subsequently finds herself out of sync with reality, her molecules repeatedly torn apart and then put back together again.

But before all of that malarky, she appeared in two Black Mirror episodes as minor character Selma Telse in 'Fifteen Million Merits', who goes on to win the singing contest, and tech journalist Sonja in 'Playtest'.

Sonja offers Cooper (Wyatt Russell), an American visiting London, money to test an immersive computer game at one of the world's most enigmatic gaming companies and predictably, it all goes horribly wrong.

7. Jerome Flynn

Shut Up and Dance

Flynn is probably best-known for his role as the brash, straight-talking Bronn in Game of Thrones, but in 2016 he played an unnamed middle-aged man in one of Black Mirror's most disturbing episodes (tough competition).

Flynn's character is blackmailed into performing strange and illegal acts after a hacker finds out that he has been unfaithful to his wife.

8. Jon Hamm

White Christmas

The series' only Christmas special to date and the last episode to be aired on Channel 4 before moving to Netflix is divided into three different stories.

Mad Men's Jon Hamm stars in the first as Matt Trent, who basically charges socially awkward people to act as their wing-man and essentially, seduce whoever they've got their eyes on. He is hired by Harry to help him woo Jennifer (Natalia Tena) at the office Christmas party, and uses a type of implant to direct his client.

But it all goes horribly wrong when Jennifer, who turns out to be a suicidal schizophrenic, thinks that Harry can also hear voices in his head, when in fact it is just the implant.

Matt is – apparently – banished to a cabin in the middle of nowhere for his irresponsible behaviour.

And a very Merry Christmas to you too...

9. Hayley Atwell

Be Right Back

From The Duchess to Marvel's Peggy Carter, the 36 year old has some big names on her CV, including Brooker's sci-fi anthology series.

Back in 2013, she appeared as Martha, a woman who is struggling to accept the death of her boyfriend after he is killed in a car accident.

10. Domhnall Gleeson

Be Right Back

The Ex Machina and Star Wars actor plays Ash, Martha's dead boyfriend. But we meet him as an android which uses artificial intelligence to imitate Ash.

11. James Norton

Nosedive

You won't have forgotten that Bryce Dallas Howard is the star of the show as Lacie, a woman who is obsessed with her personality rating, as determined by other people on their phones, and directly responsible for her socioeconomic status.

But her brother Ryan, played by James Norton, of Happy Valley and McMafia fame, has rejected the ratings system because he reckons there's more to life than the approval of others. Imagine!

12. Tobias Menzies

The Waldo Moment

He seems to pop up all over the place, from Bodyguard to Game of Thrones to The Night Manager. He's also just been cast as Matt Smith's replacement in The Crown, taking on the role of Prince Philip. Basically, he's hot property.

And he also appears in The Waldo Moment as Conservative party candidate Liam Monroe, who competes against Waldo, a foul-mouthed cartoon bear in the upcoming by-election in the town of Stentonford.
