Spain Jobless Falls Less than Anticipated
The number of people registering as jobless in Spain declined by 57,835, or 2.3%, over a month to 2.455 million in May 2025, falling below the 2.5 million mark for the first time since July 2008. Analysts had expected a reduction of 68,500 people. Unemployment fell across all sectors in May, with services seeing the largest decrease (-42,930; -2.4%), followed by construction (-5,562; -3%), industry (-4,574; -2.4%), and agriculture (-2,259; -2.8%). The number of previously unemployed also declined by 2,510 (-1.1%). Meanwhile, unemployment among young people under 25 fell by 6,426 people (-3.6%) in May compared to the previous month, bringing the total to 171,003, the lowest figure ever recorded for this group.
