What happened to Drew Carey from The Price Is Right?

Carey was "overcome with grief" after the death of his ex-fiancée Dr Amie Harwick, who was killed on February 15, 2020.

Harwick and Carey were engaged for about a year before the two split up in 2018.

Harwick, 38, was a well-known Hollywood family and sex therapist who appeared in the 2015 documentary Addicted to Sexting.

On February 15, 2020, the doctor was found unresponsive beneath a third-story balcony at her home in Hollywood Hills, California.

Police discovered Harwick was murdered by an ex-boyfriend Gareth Pursehouse, 41, after the restraining order she took out against him expired.

Officers had responded to a report of a “woman screaming” in a Hollywood Hills neighborhood, the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement.

She had been thrown from her third-floor apartment's balcony, according to police.

Shortly after the news, the production of The Price Is Right was halted as Carey grieved Harwick's death.

“Amie and I had a love that people are lucky to have once in a lifetime,” Carey said in a statement at the time.

“She was a positive force in the world, a tireless and unapologetic champion for women, and passionate about her work as a therapist. I am overcome with grief.

"I would like to thank you in advance for giving myself and everyone who loved Amie privacy while we try to work through this tragic situation.”

Did Drew Carey call for domestic violence law reform?

On February 19, 2020, Drew Carey shared a Change.org petition called “Justice 4 Amie” on Twitter and asked his followers to “please sign” or “chip in if you can.”

The Change.org petition, made by friend Diana Arias and directed at California local and state legislators, says Amie Harwick “was murdered as a result of poor laws not protecting the victims and treating the offenders.”

The petition further read: “Amie had a restraining order in place against a violent ex-boyfriend from a decade ago. The restraining order expired.”

“This man for years clearly needed treatment. She should have never had to be in this situation like so many other victims.”

“If Amie's murder can save countless other lives like she was doing when she was alive then it makes this pain of her death not in vain,” concluded the organizers of the petition.
